Afrohouse is here to stay. This music documentary traces the genre’s roots by taking us on a journey across continents, from South Africa, Kenya, and Angola to Portugal, Germany, and the USA. The film introduces several key artists but also highlights the many challenges that persist for the genre on the global stage. Even in Berlin, the unofficial capital of electronic music, afrohouse has not yet achieved the same status as in Southern Africa. The documentary has been produced by the Berlin-based afrohouse collective Rise and serves as both an introduction to afrohouse and a celebration of its global influence and legacy.
