“Migration is about people,” says acclaimed Nigerian Nollywood director Ike Nnaebue, reflecting on his first documentary. In it, we accompany him on the journey he himself undertook 26 years earlier on irregular migration routes with Europe in sight. He realized the risks himself and returned to study film in Nigeria. Today, information is available through social media, yet young people continue to embark on these journeys. In “No U-turn,” Nnaebue takes us from border to border, conducting passionate interviews with those he encounters – many of them women. What are their dreams? What motivates them to undertake this perilous journey toward an uncertain future, even with their lives at stake? The film received a special mention in the documentary category at the Berlin Film Festival.
