How can the essence of traditional African tales be conveyed in the era of today? Organized by Djilali Beskri, “Tales of Africa” is a collection of six short films produced by young African filmmakers and illustrators. From the Democratic Republic of Congo to Cameroon, passing through Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal, the protagonist, elderly Papa Nzenu, walks through different African cities with his cane and white attire. In the oral African tradition, Papa Nzenu sings his stories to passers-by and imparts his values: maintaining hope, keeping one’s word, and a range of other wisdom that a griot (storyteller) carries!
