The Planters Plantation

Eystein Young Dingha Junior / 2021 / Cameroon / Musical drama / 129 min / English

We are taken back more than 60 years in time. The year is 1961, and we find ourselves in Isambile, southwest of Cameroon, where the Asong family is celebrating their freedom from their colonizers and finally taking ownership of the plantation that their father, Timothy Asong, has worked on for decades. It doesn’t take long for the happiness to turn into sorrow, disappointment, and a tough battle between families affected by the government’s greed – and soon, the door is knocked on by the former British owner’s daughter.

“The Planters Plantation” is a musical and drama film where director Eystein Young Dingha Junior has been inspired by real events depicting neo-colonialism in Cameroon following Britain’s decolonization in the 1960s. The film was most recently selected as Cameroon’s choice at the 95th edition of the Oscars’ Academy Awards.
